“You were, I can tell!” She steams. “Listen Varric Tethras, you may be some famous dwarf with your books on the stands in Orlais, and – and the Free Marches – ” she falters for a moment before regaining her momentum. “But that doesn’t mean you can crack the kind of joke that belongs in a soldier’s game of Wicked Grace to somebody you just met!”
Varric looks at the furious little freckled face half-lit by the fire and actually feels a bit affronted that this is being pinned on him. Surely he would’ve had the social graces not to say what he thinks Lace Harding is amounting to a dirty joke. Varric takes an alarmed sip of his ale.

“They’d see an unlikely pair having a mutually agreeable conversation,” he says and enjoys another luxuriously slow pull of his cigarette. V waits patiently for him to continue, optics whirring. “For the time being, at least.”

So he had seen her. The image of the morning daybreak painting a bright, luminous stripe over the width of Minsc’s shoulders, earrings glittering like crystalised pockets of light – Caitria feels the warmth of the sun rush suddenly to her cheeks.
“Yes, I was praying.” she says quickly and clears her throat.
Minsc lifts the goblet of wine. “Then a fine God you must have, to find such small moments to devote to him. And he has rewarded you handsomely in turn.”

Summary
Mary Bennett knew what was to happen on her wedding night. Or, more accurately, she sort of knew what was to happen on her wedding night. There were many books hidden under her bed, both in childhood and adulthood, that briefly mentioned the logistics of the activities that would occur, but only in the briefest, most clinical sense.
To be completely frank, she was unsure what the appeal was. Besides, it is not as if she thought she would ever have the opportunity to experience said activities. The only additional information she was provided had come from her sisters, and they all had different ideas of whether or not wifely duties were… pleasurable. And even Lizzie, who had expressed how wonderful her wedding night had been, never went into great detail about what had made it so wonderful.
Now, only a day before her wedding, Mary was more confused than she had ever been. For the first time ever, she had the realization that she would be acting out the intimate details she had read about, not just reading them.-
Or: I thought it would be nice if Mary learned the appeal of intimacy with her husband while he reads a particularly... spicy poem aloud to her.
