Summary
It's been three years, and everyone seems to have moved on except Mike Wheeler. Stuck in the same routine, days blending together over and over. He's opted to accept his fate, but some feelings can't stay repressed forever.
As he grapples with his demons he realizes escape is an option, leading him down a twisted road of memories past. Reliving each trauma reminds him, however, exactly why he was choosing to conform all along. If Mike can escape his repression and Vecna's curse, he just might rewrite a love story they've heard before.

Summary
What's worse: being tormented by violent visions from Vecna or suffering from the mixed signals of Mike Wheeler? Depends on the day for Will Byers. Flashbacks of shared touches from last summer and the impending doom about the night to come have Will's head spinning as the party enter the Upside Down to enact Operation Beanstalk.
Meanwhile, Mike Wheeler navigates his anxiety about the hellscape he's in and crashes out over the thought that Will had a crush on him and has since moved on.

Mike walks over next to him, reaching out his hand next to Will’s, enhancing the bulb’s flickering into a steady pulse. Their fingers brush, and the sensation sends a buzz of nerves up Will’s arm. Will lets himself savor it, thinking of Robin’s words. Signals.
I’m going to die anyway, he thinks, letting himself keep his arm outstretched a few moments more. He isn’t looking at the lamp anymore though; Mike bends over, inches away, and Will’s gaze is the ocean tides to the moon in Mike’s eyes. Will tucks the stolen glance away, safe in the vault where he’s kept moments like this over the years and follows Mike’s gaze towards where his is fixated.

“Shut up!” Mike says with a scowl. “I meant, like…I was just thinking…why don’t we just do it? Why don’t Will and I kiss?”
It’s as if you could hear a pin drop.
Lucas stares at Mike like he’s grown an extra head. Dustin and El exchange a meaningful look. Even Max, who just a moment ago had been happily poking fun at Mike, is seemingly at a loss for words.
Will is silent too, color rising to his cheeks. It’s one thing for Max to suggest it; it’s another entirely for Mike to double down. Mike, his best friend for as long as he can remember. Mike, who regardless of any newfound warmth could barely touch Will for an entire year. Mike, who is oblivious to the fact that Will is desperately in love with him.
Mike, who despite all that said Why don’t Will and I kiss as if it were the simplest thing in the world.
After his first semester of college ends, Will is more than happy to spend a relaxing New Year's Eve in Mike's basement with the rest of the Party. Things go off the rails, however, when Max and El ask everyone to join in on an interesting new tradition—a tradition which may or may not involve him and Mike sharing a kiss.
