Summary
Jayce’s ears have not stopped ringing, he doesn’t think he’s stopped bleeding, but he’s started breathing. He doesn’t look away from Viktor’s eyes once. They’re like a split void, begging the observer to be lost within, begging to be explored. He can see his own reflection in them like mirrors all facing each other, an infinite display of realities and truths all playing out at once. Jayce quickly realizes what is assisting him isn’t the breathing he’s doing. It’s infinity’s distant hum.

Summary
The nightmares and the flexibility of the barrier are the same. Jayce knows this because they both keep him from focusing on what’s important. There is a man, somewhere, and he has a voice that rolls off the tongue and he has hands made of gold and he is the center of the void. He has that final number Jayce keeps missing. He has that final rotation of the Rubik’s cube. Jayce does not know his name but he knows that he loved this man, once. Maybe twice, maybe every time, but he has not met this man. He knows he will again, though. He has to.

“Denji,” he says, this time quieter, “Seriously. Would you do all that?”
Denji looks somewhere between terrified and hurt, wearing his emotions on his sleeve. “...Yeah. Yeah, I would. In a goddamn heartbeat."

Angel presses on. "Do you want to die?"
Of course he wants to die.
He wants to die just as much as he wants to live. Just as he is now devil and human, just as Angel is both beautiful and monstrous. Aki swallows the smoke and it kills him a little, just as it makes life a little more liveable in return. That's how it's been for most of his life.
"That's not what this is about," he says simply, unable to explain it.
Alive, Aki has survived by selling away his heart. Alive, Angel's memories have come back along with guilt. They find solace and understanding in the only person who sees them for what they are.

Aki and Angel can't fuck the way they'd like to. Fortunately, dark-haired men are more than willing to follow Angel home and fuck them while Aki watches in the corner. If Aki has to get rid of the bodies afterward, well, that's a small price to pay to live out the fantasy of being with Angel.
