Summary
Jessamine inhaled the scent, then inhaled it again, and after that she could not stop the tears.
Her crew depended on her and her guidance. She could not afford to cry but out of their sight.
Jessamine pressed the heels of her hands to her eyes. Her breaths were heavy, her nose stuffed. With their ship adrift in the middle of the Void, during the day Jessamine could not afford to be anything but captain. At night it was another matter.

Summary
The muffled sound that followed, and the ones after that, burned Jessamine's terror away to make way for hot, raging fury at herself. She had stood in the Council chambers and been respectful as they dismissed all of her requests without any deliberation. She had been ambassador to Palaven when tension from the First Contact War had still been high. She could maintain her composure during whatever was happening outside her office.
Someone takes advantage of the absence of Jessamine's bodyguard to try to kill her. Not the best of timing, all things considered.

Summary
She thought, again, of what had pushed her there, on a roof with the most proficient assassin in the Empire, who at one point had been inches away from shoving his sword in her heart. Who had answered her selfish need to be away from the Tower, from her duties, from Corvo, and met her on the roof of an abandoned building in a flooded district just so she would not fear being alone in the night of her own city.
With nightmares waking her up, plague management occupying her days, and Corvo as an inescapable reminder of her role, Jessamine wished but for respite for at least a night.

Summary
The petals fluttered down to the roof, bright colours fading into the shadows of the approaching day, a few blown out, down into the street, over to the next building, out of sight on the gentle breeze. Daud opened his fingers, let the petal he'd caught blow away to join its kin, away, away, followed it with his eyes until it disappeared too, too far to see.
Corvo was suffering from the green lung. It didn't concern Daud, except for the promise he'd made the Empress.

Tales From Around the End of the World by broken_ankle
Fandom: Supernatural, Supernatural (TV 2005)

Summary
In an alternate universe, only an angel died in the dungeon. In this world, Death reaped God. In this world, God's powers went to a nephil on the condition that the balance be re-established. In this world, the nephil used those powers to stabilize Heaven, and then he went back to his father.
When Jack brings him back, Castiel discovers that his parting words were misunderstood, and now Dean is avoiding him because of that. That's alright, though. He's just here to wait for his son, and any resolution he can have with Dean is just a bonus.
