Ever since Captain Curtis came into his life, James had let himself to imagine how things might end: the two of them married and living quietly in a small house in Shady Sands, or running north together and disappearing into some forgotten corner of the world, or staying in Vegas, tending a little garden full of his favorite vegetables and growing old side by side.
Dying in a mass grave with the rest of McCarran was never part of James’s imagination.
