Summary
By the time he enters the Venture Technologies building, he feels like his body is buzzing, he’s so cold. Snow gathers on his eyelashes, hopping from one to the next with the chattering of his teeth as he barely manages to gather the strength to nudge the glass door shut behind him. He feels his heart rate skyrocket, his pulse almost painful in his throat, and slowly, his brain follows, floating to the top of his skull until it presses at his cranium, his thoughts numbing before he can even process them.
The security guard– Vatred, if the tattooed blue V emblazoned across his face is any indication of the change in name –looks up from a book of sudoku, comically small in his large gloved hands, and before he can open his mouth to ask what a Guild operative could possibly need in weather like this, Frightcrawler drops.

“Are you afraid? That, you know–”
Their eyes flicker over, pausing as Zaid inhales deep. His fists clench and unclench the air at his sides. It’s a rhythmic pattern: a shaky, but consistent beat, and they wonder just how often he’s had to ground himself like this for it to become an unconscious habit.
“--that you might end up like him?”
The end of the sentence comes out of their mouth, quieter now, before their brain can stop it. When they glance up to meet his eyes, deep brown and full of an emotion they understand but can’t quite describe, his voice warbles as tears gather against his eyelashes.
“I– fuck, yes, Tristan, I’m terrified.” He sniffs, the sound sharp in the slowly cooling night air. “I don’t even know who I am anymore.”

“Of course it is,” He laughs, and the sound feels like it’s coming from within her skull rather than a physical presence. It was a part of speaking to Him she’d never get used to. “You said it yourself: I’m all knowing, aren’t I?”

Summary
Marion is a recent college graduate who grew up in a small town in the most rural parts of Florida. Isolated from his childhood peers and family and deeply scarred by a traumatic assault during his college years that unearthed years of previous similar incidents he hadn't even remembered, he returns to his town to sate his curiosity about the only thing that he can bring himself to care about anymore: the legends of a monster lurking in an abandoned park that have surrounded him since before he was born.

Even when they’d both lost, Ellie had held her shaking hands tight and told her that there were more important things than money worth fighting for. She had no reason not to think she wasn’t telling the truth.
Well, she’d also said there was no honor among thieves. Maybe Gabby should have taken that to heart instead.
