This year, Sonetto decides to get answers to where Vertin went and why she’s returned, until Schneider snatches Vertin’s time away, complicating the calculated girl’s plans. Who is she, and why do Vertin’s eyes look upon her with longing and sorrow? What will Sonetto uncover by stepping into Vertin’s world and unravelling the mysteries behind their lost time?

The last words dripped acid.
"Bet he still has that stupid painting of you in the attic or whatever. The one where you're all blond curls and big eyes. Bet he looks at it when he's drunk and gets all maudlin."
Matthew recoiled. "That's not-"
"Don't." Alfred's eyes sharpened, suddenly lucid and vicious. "Don't lie to me right now. Everyone wants you. And me? I'm the asshole they call when they need someone to bleed for them. You were so quiet, so good. Never demanded anything. He didn't have to try with you. Must've been nice."
Matthew's laugh came out strangled. "Nice? He forgot my name half the time."
"Yeah, but when he remembered-" Alfred's eyes were glassy, fever-bright. "When he remembered, it was soft, y'know Gentle. Like you were something breakable he didn't want to drop. Me? I was the thing he threw across the room to see if it'd break."

The few customers present at the cafe were respectful and minding their own business, sunlight filtered in pleasantly through the windows, and relaxing music played softly over the speakers. Overall, it was a nice, slow day at work.
Chiara sat back in her chair at the register, cracking open a book and inhaling the warm scent of coffee. It was a good day, she decided. All the customers so far had been polite, all the machines were working correctly, and most importantly, it was quiet.
She let a small, content smile rest on her face as she flipped a page, tilting her head side-to-side slightly to the music. Being the only worker that day turned out to be not that bad! However, the peace didn’t last long.
