Summary
Buck is in a hallmark movie. Only, he's the other guy. The guy who gets dumped right before Christmas because his girlfriend went back to her hometown and found the love of her life.
And that's how he ends up soaking wet, sat in a diner in Tuscon waiting on a bus back to LA, on Christmas Eve. It's also where he meets Eddie Diaz, travelling with his son Christopher back home to El Paso for the holidays.
They get to talking and find out they're both from LA, and Buck gets on like wildfire with Chris. So when it comes time for them to get going, Eddie invites Buck to join them.
He didn't realise that he'd already started to fall for him, and by the time he does, it's a few days and a piece of mistletoe too late.

Eddie was less than thrilled when Chris came home with a red solo cup full of dirt. He was so happy to tell Eddie about the class speaker they had, a botanist—“plant guy,” he called him—who helped them plant a flower. Eddie was used to Chris dumping all of his latest endeavors on him, and it would certainly disappoint the kid when his plant died because Eddie couldn’t care for it.
But Chris took care of it. He took care of Queen and loved her, but of course, she started to wilt. So, what else could Eddie do but pack up his son and the plant, drive over to the botanist that came to speak to their class, and find out what was wrong with the plant? And maybe drool over the guy, just a little bit? No harm, right?

The pink shade of Buck’s lips makes his fingertips tingle, and the urge to reach out and run his thumb over the cut is strong, and he almost does at one point, while they're cooking dinner—ever the picture of domesticity that squeezes at his heart, Chris rambling excitedly at the kitchen table.

Summary
“Stop right there, young man” Eddie orders and hates to realize he just said one of the phrases he hated to hear from his own father. Chris sits back down, defeat taking over his face. “You must tell Buck” he says and Buck frowns, Eddie thinks it's adorable and hates his body for reacting automatically to every action his best friend does. So Eddie hides his smile with his left hand, he has his arm resting on the couch and crosses his legs.
“But Dad!” Chris complains and for some reason the situation seems too funny to Eddie. Maybe it's Buck's face, Chris' desperation, that his brain is finally taking in what's going on, or that SpongeBob is still in the background. “Do I really have to do this?”
“Christopher Díaz, you're the one who got us into this situation.”
Or, Chris tells a lie at school and now Eddie and Buck must give a talk about love and work pretending to be fiances.
