Inwardly, to their utmost glee, he bursts into laughter. Outwardly, they proclaim, “Satoru!”
“But I missed you!” He sings alongside their heart, and they’re spun quick enough to forget why they liked him in the first place. Only twice before they’re being carried instead, kicking out with legs far shorter than him, even with their superiority over most. Placed down back in their starting point, the couch nearly bumps the back of their calves. “This is the best surprise I could have ever asked for!”

They kneel. Fingers curl the crumbled garment leg gathering around his ankles, until it lies flat against white boots. Ornate design needled beneath the pads of their fingers, golden thread brightening up otherwise dull honey-stricken eyes. “We don’t have to speak of it.”
”We will eventually,” He says above them. His chin held high, they tilt their own to view him. Gaze focused on the mirror across from the two, he hasn’t looked them in the eyes since they arrived to dress him—they haven’t attempted to do such anyway. “We can’t just pretend.”
”For now, we can.” Hours away, he will be married to someone else and they will no longer have solid claim over the man they have known since they were a child.
