“You’ll like VTIC,” Jaehyun whispered, watching Gunwoo’s sleeping face, subtle movement behind his lids. “I guess you’ll miss those kids of yours, but let’s be honest. You don’t know how to not love your team.”He was sure of it. Gunwoo had been tossed in with a handful of gems and some obvious duds thanks to that survival show, members he had no reason to value, but he’d become loyal to them so quickly. By the time Jaehyun kidnapped him, he’d already been unwilling to give them up.
Attachment that strong and fast spoke to something innate inside Gunwoo. There was a characteristic of his personality that reached out and grabbed onto those near him, made them his and refused to let go. A very childish sort of greed or sentimentality. That sort of greed was what drove a child, when offered something better and more valuable than the worn old stuffed toy they’d always had, to reject what was objectively better in favor of what was already loved. That greed was driving Ryu Gunwoo now, as he insisted this world was a daydream and looked for a way home. He wanted what he already loved.

I have to debut or I’ll fucking die? This shitty fucking system. This fucking bullshit system. This fuckass bastard system. Why is this bastard talking to me? I hope that bitchass judge fucks off and falls off a cliff. If this shitty system–”
Ahyeon, hands raised as if to protect himself from a physical barrage, hastily breaks in. “What judge?”
“The one on Idol Inc who was mean to you,” Keundal says. “Mostly when the system window was open, hyung was cursing out either the system or TNet. But sometimes Lee Sejin. There’s more. I especially remember ‘If I ever fucking hear fucking Pop-Con again–’”
“That’s enough,” Moondae says, resigned, eyes closed as he rubs a thumb between his brows. “That’s enough. Chungwoo, give me a different job, I can’t draw the fucking logo.”
Lee Sejin cackles loudly, but Chungwoo knows Moondae said it for the way it would make KeunDal giggle.

Lee Sejin didn't need Moondae to be gentle with him, because they were beyond that. It was okay if they were harsh with each other.
Lee Sejin didn't need to be handled in the way Moondae would tactfully nudge Ahyeon or Bae Sejin through a conversation or course of action. He didn't need to be distracted in the way Moondae would divert the younger members' energy into more productive channels. And he didn't need to be lulled into a false sense of security, the way Moondae put on a mask for the rest of the world, whether it was the quirky Moon Puppy for the fans or quiet team player Park Moondae behind the scenes. To him, Park Moondae always came bluntly, without disclaimers or equivocation.
Sejin didn't have to be tricked and cajoled and convinced that Moondae was good, because they were the same type of person down at the bone. Alone with each other, they didn't have to pretend not to be calculating and ambitious. It was okay to show the worst parts of themselves.

Park Moondae doesn’t want to say yes—he shouldn’t say yes. It’s the fact that his heart has been punctured so, so many times that he’s lost track of how many wounds it has. It’s the fact that he’s unable to come to terms with his own feelings because he doesn’t know what any of it means, and it feels like hot lava is being poured on him relentlessly, melting him to his very core until there is nothing left. It doesn’t take a genius to see that he’s being swallowed by giant, hungry flames when Lee Sejin speaks of love like it couldn’t be anything else but the truth.
And it doesn’t feel good, this heat that wraps around him like a cage. He’s afraid of giving himself up, giving away all that he has in his body until there’s nothing left. Because there’s only so much he can give and only so much he can take in. There will always exist an agonizing pressure of having been thrown into a volcano and eaten by flames, of being on the cusp of insanity, of holding on so hard to the edges of the universe in fear of being erased.

Moondae comes out of his room freshly-showered, dressed deceptively casual but nice, hair slicked back, an honest-to-God spark in his eyes and a bounce in his step, just a hint of a smirk in the lines of his mouth, unfortunately maybe the most attractive Lee Sejin has ever seen him, because it turns out that scary Park Moondae ready to go to war for him is, um. • OMFG ?!?!?! This punched me in the heart. Omg. It just shows how much Lee Sejin cares about Park Moondae. Like he’s ready to genuinely do anything for Moondae, and he regrets not even meeting Moondae sooner because he wanted to save him. It’s so so sweet and so so painful at the same time !! Also also man Lee Sejin is so in love with Moondae here. Him thinking they would be a two-for-one package deal, him being selfless enough to include Ahyeon but clarifying that Moondae wouldn’t /need/ Ahyeon because he already had Sejin lol
