Summary
He’s a vet, Buck would bet his last dollar. The combat boots tucked inconspicuously under the jeans are one thing, but it’s the faded green jacket that says it all - Diaz barely visible where it’s stamped over his chest, the way his shoulders sit tense and set back underneath it. Buck looks more military than Diaz does - he’s still keeping it high and tight, clean shaven, his arms are starting to finally fill in after all that PT. Diaz, by contrast, has a few days’ growth on him at least, dark shadows scrubbing across his cheeks, darker over his lips even, and a few long tendrils of wet hair still plastered to his forehead.
“Hey,” Buck says, “what can I do you for?”
“I need a room,” Diaz answers. “Can you do day to day?”
Buck looks outside at the long line of absolutely goddamn nothing and no one for miles, except Mr. Han in the Spade Suite, which he wouldn’t even be sure about himself if it weren’t for his towel hanging on the door knob every other morning at 10 am like clockwork. “Yeah, man, I think I can swing that.”
[Or Buck has a dead end job at a highway motel and a mysterious stranger arrives at night.]

Summary
“You okay?” Buck asks, and Eddie blinks, lets out the breath that had gotten caught in his throat.
“Yeah,” he says, even though – no, not really. “Sorry, just – a surprise, I guess. Hearing from him.”
Which is weird, come to think of it, because they used to be close. Closer than anything, as close as – well, as close as him and Buck, but in a different way. In a way that felt frantic and clinging and desperate, something to hold onto while they were being shot at.
Eddie hears from an old army buddy; it brings a few things to the surface.

Summary
“I’m not usually this insane,” Eddie claimed, which was not Evan’s impression in this exact moment. “I’m usually—” he laughed, incredulous at himself, “I’m usually so fucking uptight. I eat and sleep and go to three god-awful jobs across town from each other and take care of my kid and argue with my parents and I never fucking do anything. Evan,” Eddie paused, cupping his face in his hands delicately, “I like you. This was fun, sure, but I…”
Eddie kissed him again, softer and wetter, running his tongue over the seam of Evan’s lips. Evan melted. When Eddie spoke again, he melted even further, practically a puddle at his feet. “I like you. And maybe this is just all in my head and you’re thinking I’m an absolute freak and can’t wait to get out of here but—”
“But maybe I like you, too,” Evan interjected.
Eddie smiled. Radiant. “Yeah?”

Summary
“I gotta be dreaming.”
Buck pinches him. Hard.
“Jesus Christ, Buck.”
“See? Not dreaming.”
Eddie sends him an irritated, wary look, but Buck is getting kind of amped up, so he starts pacing around with his hands on his head.
“Okay, we’re—we’re stuck in a fucking time loop. Both of us. Um, what if it’s like. What’s that movie called? Groundhog Day! Where we have to learn to be better people. Or like a fucking. Uh. A Christmas Carol.”
“A Christmas Carol isn’t about a time loop,” Eddie adds unhelpfully.
“Okay, b-but some fantastical shit happens and they have to be better.” Buck gasps. “Oh my God, Eddie. What if we’re terrible people?”
Buck and Eddie start living the same day over and over again.
