Alhaitham had been distant. He left early and came home late. He skipped meals. Kaveh had been called many things in his life, but he was not an idiot. Every time Kaveh worked his way through the facts, he arrived at the same conclusion. It was not a pleasant conclusion, but it was the right one in all the ways that mattered.
Alhaitham wanted him gone.

“Fight back” Kaveh shouted.
“Just fight back, you’re stronger than me, stop playing- stop pretending like you’re weak!” Kaveh roared. He held the sword threateningly, hoping to scare Alhaitham into fighting back. But all he could see was those same eyes, those watercolor eyes that always seemed to sparkle a bit more when he was around. He knew, Alhaitham never looked at anyone that way and he knew what that meant. He knew the prince of the desert well enough to know why he laid on the floor and let Kaveh pin him down with a sword.
