    “Mads would make me mac and cheese whenever I was sick and give me Sprite.” Because although he doesn’t have tender stories about his parents from his childhood, he had a hell of a lot about Maddie.

     

    “What did you do once she moved out? You were still young, weren’t you?” Hen asks, struggling to remember her foggy Buckley timeline.

     

    “I mostly just pressed on through it. All it did was upset them when I brought it up.” Buck shook his head. “When Maddie wasn’t around to spoil me, I figured it out quick enough. I had learned Kraft by then, so it wasn’t a big deal. I’d shoplift cough syrup if I was desperate until I had money and an ID.”

     

    “You what?” Maddie asks, visibly startled by the admission.

     

    “Come on, I know it was wrong, but I was young,” Buck complains. “Dad would get weird when I asked him to buy me meds, so I just figured out a workaround.”

    Not what Eddie was expecting turned out to be the understatement of the millenia.
    From Bobby’s reaction to finding out that Buck was working out when he knew there was a new alpha in the firehouse, he suspected the guy was out to prove a point. What he was not expecting was the 6’2 , muscular dirty blond with a physique to rival any alpha’s, bench pressing more than Eddie could on most days.
    Eddie’s mouth dropped open, and he couldn’t help scenting the air to catch the slightest whiff of omega wafting through the room. His instincts struggled to reconcile the sight of the absolute tank of a man in front of him and that sweet alluring tang in the air.
    “Buck, what have I told you about scent blockers in the gym?” Bobby said sternly.
    “Uh, that it’s not my fault I sweat through them when I’m having a good workout?”
    OR
    Buck hates alpha men. Eddie isn't attracted to omegas. Neither things matter because Buck and Eddie belong together, even if it takes a near death experience to work it all out.

    “Eds, seriously,” Buck sighed, trying to find an appropriate place to hold on—or even rest his face—as Eddie hauled him up the stairs in his loft, presumably planning on throwing him onto the bed, which he couldn’t deny having had a few fantasies that began just like this.

    Still, he didn’t think they were headed for that kind of fun right now.

    Because the steady growl rumbling Eddie’s chest made it pretty apparent that he’d reached the end of his tether with Buck’s antics at work, even if Buck still wouldn’t change what he’d done on their last shift—which had been cut short for him, though not for Eddie.

    —or—

    Buck gets hurt at a scene, sparking a reaction in Eddie that is usually reserved for mates, which is especially odd since they aren’t nor have ever been dating, let alone bonded as a pair.

    So when Eddie shows up at the loft after his shift, feral and lost to his wolf, he proceeds to literally lick Buck’s wounds, nuzzle his crotch, then test every last fiber of Buck’s willpower as he desperately tries to do the right thing, not wanting to take advantage Eddie in this state.

    Which, for the record, he fails at—though neither is bothered by that in the slightest.

He was looking forward to taking part in it and had daydreamed about what alpha would win him and take him out for a date. However, the last person he expected was fire captain Eddie Diaz from the 136 to be the one to place the most money on him and win the omega.

    Not that Buck is complaining. Especially when Eddie Diaz has to be the most handsome alpha around and knows how to be a gentleman on the streets and a beast in the sheets.
