    Summary

There isn’t an easy way to go about describing it, is the thing. How it happened, Oscar isn’t clear on the particulars of it all.

This he knows: he’d been stumbling down the hallway after his fight with Lando, barely keeping himself upright with a hand on the wall. Until, he’d fallen right through it. There exists a concrete dichotomy, and then there doesn’t. The wall swallows him, is the only way to describe it. Some membrane opens up, and he stumbles into the sulfuric fluorescence of another world altogether.

In the centre of the room sits a mound of wrangled cars, Mclaren orange, Ferrari red, Mercedes teal, every other team on the grid, maybe, that almost skims the ceiling, like a massive pile-up on the track.

Amongst the wreckage, he thinks he sees the wreckage of Belgium, 2021. Lando, shunting into the barriers, dragging up sparks, flinging debris across the asphalt.

The crumpled orange carcass of the car watches him now. Something within peers at him, the watery flash of hazel.

“You’re not being very sympathetic,” Lando replies. “My roommate is a serial killer!”

Charles says, unhelpfully, “five months ago you walked into his apartment with no identification, no luggage, and the request for him not to look your name up on the internet, and he let you live with him without even asking if you served in the war. And we are surprised he is a lunatic?”

Or: Oscar kills people. Lando is legally dead. Someone wants to restart the war.

“Just saying, if you’re taking another hit, you should share it with me,” Mike says, and Will slowly tilts his head, drinking in every word. “It just makes sense. Like, mathematically.”

Will’s reddened eyes narrow, bewildered. “Mathematically?”

“If there’s two hits left, we’d each only get one,” Mike explains. “But if we shotgunned, we’d both get two.” God, this is the best idea he’s had in ages. He should’ve stolen Will’s weed, like, months ago. “That’s like, bang for your buck. This is simple math, Will Byers. Keep up.”

In which it’s well past midnight in New York, Will can’t sleep, and Mike feels like they barely know each other anymore.

So, they get a little high. Mike is very normal about all of it.

    Summary

After they save the world, Will gets a boyfriend and a haircut. Mike loses his mind.

A bunch of random words and feelings flash through Mike’s brain but they won’t settle down to form a sentence. He just can’t fathom the idea of Will…with a boyfriend. Will’s boyfriend. A boyfriend who is Will’s. It won’t make sense no matter how he squints at it. “Dudes kissing or whatever is cool,” Mike says eventually. “It’s just… Will…”

Will picks up a pillow and throws it at Mike’s face. Mike catches it. “That’s not fair,” Will says. “Dustin has Suzie, and Lucas has Max.”

“But you’re Will,” says Mike. Doesn't everyone else feel this way, too? Dustin and Lucas are looking at him with twin expressions of horrified fascination, like Mike is some kind of slow-motion train wreck. “I mean– I mean, you’ve always been–”

My Will, Mike’s brain finishes. Shit, he’s not saying that out loud.

“The baby?” asks Will, glaring at him. “Shut up, Mike.”

“No,” Mike says again, miserable, but he can’t say I don’t want there to be some other guy you like more than me out loud where god and Dustin can hear him and never let him forget it as long as he lives.
