That night he had not slept.
He had lain in his cot instead, eyes fixed on the ceiling and gaze too distant to notice how moonlight had slowly trailed her fingers on the walls, how light had shifted from silver to grey to pale gold. Dawn had come and found Mike restless on top of his still-made bed, middle and index finger pressed against his lips – a whole night spent reliving and sifting through the same memories and yet it still felt unreal, too dreamlike to have been true.
When dawn had come to caress Mike’s cheek, rosy-fingered and warm, she had found resolution in his heart and a foolish, foolish plan firmly rooted in his mind.

Summary
There’s a gentle tapping noise coming from behind him. It takes Will a moment to realise it’s not a stray branch knocking against the cabin. It’s Mike.
Will listens, holds his breath. It’s too rythmic to be casual – measured, even taps of fingertips against the floorboards.
Then it hits him. His name, spelled in dots and lines on the wooden floor.

Summary
A fat raindrop splashes on Mike’s cheek, slips down his face and down his chin; falls on his neck to disappear inside his damp shirt. Leaves behind the scorching trail of Will’s gaze on his skin.
Mike tightens his grip on the soda cans when Will’s adam’s apple bobs up and down, considers closing his eyes and tipping his head back, let the tepid rain speck his face, soak him to the bone.
A kiss in the rain would be romantic, right? Date appropriate.

Except he wasn’t truly alone in the garden.
Will tore his eyes from the paper and looked over at the frog: it had not moved an inch, all the while Will had filled the page and got lost in his thoughts, found his way out and got lost anew.
The frog blinked slowly at him. Will lowered his sketchbook. It was definitely staring.
