Actually, thinking back, it might have been the same impulse that told him to walk to the Star that told him to pick it up. Really, he wanted to leave it underneath the concrete, because a human could do nothing with one and he would survive for longer without it. But then he thought about how it felt, how he felt, miles away from home, hiding in foreign darkness, waiting for something to happen, for someone to reach out and tell him that everything was going to be okay.
