Summary
Caitlyn is a decorated combat veteran who barely escaped death during an ambush, one that cost an eye and earned her plenty of physical and mental scars of war. Vi, on the other hand, is a guarded woman from years of a brutal and wrongful incarceration. She’s angry and refuses to let anyone but the remnants of her family close again.
Their paths cross in the waiting room of a psychiatric clinic. Caitlyn is seeking peace from the nightmares and memories she can’t control yet again. Vi is there because she has to be. She had to choose between therapy or returning to prison for assault.
As Caitlyn digs into a case that was previously closed, they find themselves interacting far more than intended. They grow closer through truth and lies. They try to heal together through fragile trust and a few blurred lines along the way.
Maybe in finding the truth, they find something more. Something that tastes a little too much like love.

“You want me to apologize to some rich Piltie councilor for blowing up one shabby lab?” He’s got to be kidding. “Why? It’s not like they can’t afford to buy ten more of those. They probably wouldn’t even have noticed if the enforcers hadn’t made such a big deal out of it.”
“You’re not apologizing to Cassandra Kiramman,” Vander sighs and for the first time, Vi can see his age in his wrinkled brow and tired eyes. “You’re going to apologize to their daughter, Caitlyn.”
Vi frowns, “Daughter?” She didn’t know the Kirammans had a daughter. “Why the hell should I talk to their daughter?”
“Because Sheriff Grayson has told me that she’s been in the hospital since your little stunt topside.”
She stops pacing, her feet rooted to the old carpet as her blood runs cold.

Caitlyn’s ears were ringing from the explosion.
There was smoke and dust all around her, obscuring her vision as she staggered to her feet, trying to process what had just happened. One minute she’d been half-carrying Vi away from the carnage after a Noxian soldier had sliced a nasty cut across her stomach, the next Vi was pushing her away and running to throw herself in front of Jinx, who seemed to be reaching out for the monstrosity that had once been their father. Caitlyn just barely caught a glimpse of a tiny, blue-haired figure crouched underneath the roaring creature before there was an explosion of blue light, the force of it so strong she was knocked off her feet.
Now, she gripped her rifle at her side, scanning desperately through the smoke for any sign of life. The name left her lips like an instinct, panic taking over as she screamed. “Vi! Vi, are you out there? Vi!”

Vi shook her head as she scrolled, trying to clear the sting of the loss and the twisting, heated memory of Caitlyn’s form against her rattling around in her brain.
It didn’t work.
It never worked.
Vi still remembered their first fight clearly, even years later.
The image of Caitlyn walking into the ring was still fresh in her mind: the shocking blue of her eyes sparking under the bright lights, her body slender, but muscled, her angular face stoic and focused, her mouth a harsh line across her face.
Vi had been worried she was going to snap her in half.
She scoffed as she remembered just how fucking wrong she’d been.
Caitlyn had wiped the floor with her. She’d had to work for it - a change from her other fights, Vi found out later - but she had.
After that, her training regimen was pretty much exclusively focused on beating Caitlyn.
She hated losing.

Laudna is a children's librarian who loves doing story time, but unfortunately the kids find her more scary-scary than fun-scary. So it's very rare for her to be able to do that.
Imogen runs an outdoor school where schools in Jrusar send grades of children to learn about nature and get some learning done outside of a traditional classroom. Finding someone to lead a story time with the kids has been a bit difficult, so Imogen reaches out to the local public library.
This is a modern AU, so they don't have magic per se. This is generally going to be from Laudna's perspective, with a lil Imogen sprinkled in for flavour. I'll add more tags and characters as they become relevant.

They’ve talked about this, laying atop wrinkled sheets, lazy and glowing and spent. What a shame, Laudna had murmured into Imogen’s ear, that there wasn’t a way to have the magic flow the opposite direction, so that she could know what Imogen wanted, pull inspiration from her mind. Imogen had shivered, then taken Laudna’s hand and dragged it down between her legs to show her what that thought did to her.
Does to her. She’s definitely turned on. Can feel the excitement jumping in her. But—
But Laudna thinks Imogen is perfect. Thinks she’s amazing. Thinks she’s wonderful. The problem is, she’s really not. And if Laudna looks into Imogen’s head, Imogen is certain that she’ll find out.
