Kabru remembers Utaya humming, the whole village bright with song. He always tried to rise with his mother, who had to start work before dawn; and every morning she soothed him back to sleep with a wistful lullaby, her voice in perfect harmony with the sounds of their world coming to life.
So it was, a day like any other, when the dungeon crumbled - when Utaya sang one last time, in one terrible endless scream, before it all fell silent.

He gets rather wound up after a triggering conversation with a recently retired adventurer he had been interested in, and the food festival lighting up the island's streets was only making it worse.
