    In Vegas, after they’d said everything right up to the edge of I love you, Shane and Ilya came up with a plan. It was long term, with many, many steps. There might be a spreadsheet somewhere that Shane won’t admit to.

    But it’s a plan, nonetheless. Over the summer of 2014, they tweak it and add things important to the both of them. There are even many, extensive, contingency plans.

    “Anyway, I have to get up there, but I just wanted to introduce myself.” Shane reached out his hand again to shake Ilya’s. 

    “See you around Shane Hollander.” 

    Shane turned to head into the building. 

    “Who knows, maybe soon, you will consider me family.” 

    Shane found himself wanting to respond with “That’s not happening” as if it was the next line in a play that Shane forgot that he was performing in. A sense of wrongness pricked up his spine, his breath catching in the cold air. He tried to pull at the thread of that line, to unravel it to the beginning and to see where the words had come from and why he felt certain that he had signed his own death warrant the moment the words failed to leave his lips. He pulled, but all he saw was blackness threatening to swallow him whole. 

    (or the story begins when Shane Hollander finds himself cast in Jacob Tierney's newest film alongside his best friend Rose Landry and teenage soap star turned Hollywood's latest bad boy Ilya Rozanov.)
