Cigarette smoke, and expensive perfume permeated throughout the amber painted rooftop, blending into something thick enough to choke on. Beneath it lingered the sharper scent of vodka, sweat, and the chemical sting of cocaine crushed not so discreetly against bathroom counters.
Around me, the gossip about what the latest socialites were doing or dating rose and collapsed, people’s drunken laughter, and the reverberation of the bass in whatever song was playing all blurred together in my drunken state. Near the bar, stood an angular blonde girl with smeared glitter listening to a man talk endlessly about some new pretentious film no one really cared about.
