Rio nods to the woman “Welcome aboard, doctor. I hope you will find our lot a more interesting study than the Philemon’s crew.”
A furtive smile dances on the doctor’s lips and Rio immediately wants to see it again.

Summary

The many nations around the world would throw aside their many quarrels and band together under the United Nations to defeat this global threat, with the organization spearheading the creation of the "rigging" and eventually the "kanmusu" that would soon tip the balance into humanity's favor. By 2033, the war was decisively in humanity's hand.
But what if something were to change? What if the abyssals so desperate to achieve victory over humanity that they were to employ a new weapon in an attempt to change the course of history and secure their victory before the United Nations fleet became too overwhelming?
