Sion cannot fill in the empty berth of Maeda Riku in Yushi's heart anymore than he can try to fill up the identical gap in his own. Sion can plant himself in the space beside and put down roots and hope that Yushi's heart has enough space for the both of them. He can hope that even if the absence is felt, Yushi can find respite in Sion's arms to weather this together.

Tonight, it’s cold, and so Rei’s bundled up in the passenger’s seat in a scarf and a parka, her hands tucked into wool mittens. Asuka’s in her pajamas – ratty sweatpants and her lacrosse jersey with SORYU emblazoned on the back in big black letters. She doesn’t seem to notice the cold, but Rei still wishes she’d brought an extra jacket for her, even if Asuka would turn her nose up at it in some strange act of defiance against someone loving her.

“Ah, they’re boarding,” Sion tells him when it’s announced over the intercom. “I’ll be there in two hours, yeah? Don’t fall asleep until I get there.”
“I’m wide awake,” Riku says. And then he yawns. “If your plane crashes, I’ll-”
“Kill me, I know, you’ve told me,” Sion laughs. They call for his boarding number and he stands up. “Stay awake! I love you, okay?”
Riku’s cheeks are pink as they always are whenever Sion says it. Though he’s still smiling; a coy little thing. “I’ll be there,” he says. “I love you, too.”
Sion presses his lips to his phone camera. Making a loud, obnoxious MWAH! sound that startles the people standing around him.
Soon, he thinks as he gets on the plane. Soon, soon, soon-

Sion and Riku have been online best friends for six years, dating for two. All it takes is years of yearning and a bad birthday party to get them to meet. And so they do. And so it is everything they've ever wanted.
It's weird, truthfully, how someone you've never met can still feel like coming home.
