Vee reached down off the edge of the bunk so that Luz could see the phone. “What’s a ‘Secret Santa’?”
“Oh!” Luz stood up excitedly, sketchbook forgotten and pencil lost forever in the pile of blankets. “It’s a game that people play around Christmas! Basically everyone secretly picks out a name, and you have to find a present for that person without them knowing. And then everyone reveals who their secret santa was at the end!” At this point, Luz was excitedly dancing around the room, waving her arms around animatedly as she explained the game. A mischievous grin slowly appeared on her face, and she gave Vee a Look.
The basilisk sighed and smiled back. “You wanna throw a secret santa party with your Hexside friends, don’t you?”

Eurydice frowns. “That pickup line usually work on girls,” she nods at the guitar slung over his back, “player?”
“Yes. Usually.” He squints his eyes, in seriousness more than irritation. He wraps his hands around the fingers holding the match and gives her hand a gentle shake. “I’m Orpheus.”
“Eurydice.”
Orpheus clears his throat. “So,” he says, “what are we going to do? Now that we know each other.”
“Nice try.” Eurydice untangles her hands and her new match from his fake handshake. She holds the match under her chin and lets her face stretch with underlit shadow. “It’s nice to meet you again, Orpheus.”

Or, Eurydice starts to remember, and they get a little closer to something like a future.

Summary
“Talk to me.” Fragmented words, broken by a deep rasp and cracks every syllable, but just audible enough for him to feel everything… shift. Just for a moment his request permeated the air between them, calming the voices taunting him until he can only hear her, his wife, his love, Eurydice.
“...Talk to you? I have, love. But you don’t believe me...” ‘He never does’, he felt the winds whisper to him. He swallowed back a wave of bile that washed over him, flashes of failure, failure, he always fails her how could he do this-
“Not- not telling me you’re here. But just… anything else. Please, anything. I can’t- everything feels wrong, not real, Eurydice...” ‘Anything to reassure me you’re not just a crude mimicry sent by Hades to mess with me’ was what went unsaid.

They've lived this tale over and over again. No matter how many times it ends this way, they continue to sing the same songs anyway; hoping, praying that one day, things will change. That one day, Orpheus won't turn around. Again and again, he failed. He refuses to fail again.

He actually does everything he can to not use his powers as much as possible considering the whole Void that consumes humanity and traps them and him in their nightmares. He doesn’t even remember doing that!
So, it’s really not his fault that he didn’t know he could time travel, right?
