Daisy Tonner was not what Martin had been expecting when Jon said he was seeing someone else. She worked in private security, Jon had explained. She was older than both of them by a good eight or so years. Daisy was nothing like Georgie, who was short and friendly and had a naturally charming smile; who was funny and playful but polite, too, and very aware of herself and her boundaries with others. Daisy Tonner was gruff and not very talkative. When she did speak, she was direct. She had a soft voice, but nothing else about her seemed very soft. She was tall and had sharp eyes that drilled holes right through Martin, exposing all his soft, trembling insides. He got the feeling she wasn’t impressed with such trembling softness.
