“Holy hell, he’s real! Guys, Laurent’s husband is real!”
Damen instantly felt five or six pairs of eyes lock onto him with laser-like precision. The person who had spoken, a tall man with shaggy brown hair and a smile that could only be described as ‘charmingly roguish’ was looking at Damen like he was an actual celebrity, instead of just dressed like one.
“Blink twice if he’s holding you hostage,” the man said seriously. “Or if you’re being paid to be here.”
Laurent rolled his eyes for the second time that evening. “Astonishingly enough Lazar, my husband is a real human being made of flesh and blood, as opposed to an anime body pillow like you’re so fond of telling everyone.”

The sound of fingers ticking away on keyboards, a coffee machine doing its job, and people groaning when they made a mistake filled the space around Laurent’s desk. Laurent immensely enjoyed the sounds of people at work around him. While he found the groaning of his colleagues rather annoying, the soft ticking of the keys and the gurgling of the coffee machine usually had a grounding effect.
Today, however, it felt as if the ricketicking of the keyboards were trying to singlehandedly split his head in two. At the same time, the bitter almost burned smell of the coffee was doing its best to make Laurent feel as nauseous as possible. Laurent’s mind swam, yet he couldn’t focus on one clear thought other than trying to escape this hellish room.

Damen draws in a ragged breath seemingly more from emotion than physiological need, and Laurent notices the exact moment that his eyes focus on Laurent and he is able to take in the world before him.
“Laurent,” he says, a little raspy, eyes still wide, “how did you do that three—four times? I have never felt so—The lack of control. It felt like drowning. How were you sure you didn’t drown?” He stumbles to the edge of the spring as he speaks, driven by a clear impetus: dropping to his knees next to Laurent and pulling him in for a reassuring hug. Laurent pushes him away before he can make contact, standing and lifting the towel from the pile he has made.
“You’re all wet, and I’d prefer not to be. Dry yourself and get dressed, and then you may lay your hands on me.”

After the events of even in another time, Laurent and Damen take the opportunity to go on a trip—a honeymoon of sorts—to the modern world. Brothers are met, books are launched, and another first is experienced.
