Summary
Thousands of years ago, the islands of Inazuma crashed into the shores of Liyue, causing a mass of earthquakes that destroyed the lands known as Teyvat. Celestia retreated into the skies and monsters went into hiding, never to be seen again. The Archons faded away, being forgotten by their people, and now Xiao is one of the only ones left.
Multiple millennia later, quirks started to appear, and wanting to protect the lands he used to call home, Xiao becomes a hero. Now, with a new generation on the rise, along with the reappearance of a defiled statue, his constellation once again begins to shine.

“How’d you figure that? And what makes this particular person so interesting to you?” In a rare display of openness, he lets his interest show.
“Take you, for example. You’re quite an intriguing person, and the Traveler considers you a friend.” And before Scara can respond, Albedo counters him preemptively. “He’s told me so himself, Scara.” He says, almost sternly. It surprises Scara for a moment. “And about your question of why this person in particular, it’s simply because of the way Aether spoke about him.”
“And how did Aether speak about him?”
“Much the same way he spoke about you. Like he was someone worth getting to know.”

Scara, after so many years of not letting himself develop any sort of relationship with anyone (Nahida being the unintentional exception), lets curiosity be his undoing.

“I only paint things that catch my attention, and you’ve had it ever since Aether told me about you,” Albedo answers, and Xiao really should be used to Albedo saying things that catch him unaware by now.
“Why?” He asks, both to stall from answering once more and because of genuine curiosity.
“Because for all that I enjoy seeing people in moments of happiness, I enjoy painting tragedies in equal measure.”

Xiao and his master, Zhongli, come across an unconscious homunculus during the last snow of the season, one that houses a peculiar, fractured soul. In hopes of discovering the purpose of Albedo's creation, Zhongli assigns the task of 'completing' him to Xiao in hopes that his apprentice will discover the reasons behind Albedo's creation and the purpose of the soul that inhabits him.

Xiao has always been the most strong-willed of all yaksha, and he will never fail to use this to alleviate his companions' burden, if it can save them.
Xiao has no time, but he makes a gamble. To save Bosacius. To turn the tides of war.
And maybe so that, in the end, there will be one more person to welcome Morax home, when the war ends.Bosacius comes back.

As Morax’s marshal, Bosacius personally supervises the training of the new yaksha recruits. He isn’t sure that the young and skittish Xiao has what it takes, but he makes a point to give everyone a chance.
Or almost everyone. Bosacius has mixed feelings about the ex-bloodhound that Morax saved and is now tending to in one of his domains, especially as Morax mentioned in passing that this mysterious Adeptus might later want to join their ranks.
Of course, both these issues are completely unrelated.
