"I was thinking…" she starts and James nods, intrigued and a bit amused because when is Ruby Bell not thinking? She pauses, eyes still fixed on him, and James knows that whatever she says next will decide where they go from here.
"I think the past is... overrated.”
Something in James settles at her words.
So this is it. He won’t have to pretend he doesn't know her, won’t have to pretend that whatever this is, this charged tension between them, doesn't intrigue him.
It feels good to know it's not one-sided.

Belly was cut short of her wandering thoughts of QB1’s hands when Taylor’s voice cut through.
“Holy shit, B. You should ask Conrad Fisher,”
“No way. He doesn’t talk to anyone,” Belly said, shaking her head, trying to sound firm but failing when her eyes flicked back toward the field.
Taylor waved a hand at her like that settled it. “Exactly. Which is why you have to. It’s like a challenge. A Hail Mary, if you will.”
Belly groaned, dragging a hand down her face and rolling her eyes. “Taylor, I don’t even know him. He’s… he’s Conrad Fisher. He’s practically untouchable. The whole stadium cheers just for him to blink and breathe.”
Taylor laughed, giving her a playful nudge. “That’s literally the point. You either ask and he says yes, or you ask and he says no. Either way, you never have to see him again, and he graduates next spring. There’s literally no harm in asking him.”****on hold****
