Summary
Just an idea that's been bouncing around my head on how Herbert chose his name. I don't dare speculate on what his dead name is, because it's nobody's business, but I feel like learning how/why he chose the name Herbert makes him easier to identify with. Also, this is the first fanfic I've written in YEARS, and the first for Reanimator full stop, so I'm a bit rusty. Also I wrote this while half asleep in bed after work yesterday so...do with it what you will lol

Summary
Herbert doesn't know what home is, and has never really taken to the concept. Every house he's ever lived in has simply been a place where he resides. And he's never lived anywhere long enough to know the call of home.
Dan teaches him that home is a feeling, and a person can feel like home.

Summary
Dan had gotten choked out, stabbed, and nearly killed enough times to last four lifetimes for this man. Yet after all that, after everything that should have made Dan punch Herbert, pack his things, and leave; he couldn’t bring himself to do it.
Especially not when every once in a while, the other man’s mask slipped, and the soft, squishy human underneath faced the sun.

Summary
Herbert has small hands that are thick palmed with fingers that spindle out in three directions. Most of Dan’s fourth year in medical school has been spent watching those hands put organs back in bodies, covered with viscera and latex. He sometimes thinks about how those hands touched Meg and how his own hands touched her: that maybe some wisp of her tissue is still clinging to the ridges of his fingerprints. Right now Herbert’s hands are clean although his fingernails are bitten down and jagged. Dan notices these things.
“You are always in my bed Dan,” Herbert says to his hands, “and yet you never try to kiss me. Why do you think that is?”
