Summary
If Kaveh shows up now, late at night, tears in his eyes; if he shows up now, gasping for air, desperate for help; if he shows up now, broken, and honest, and bare — he knows Alhaitham won’t push him away. That’s how it’s always been with them, after all: the proximity, the comfort, the vulnerability; and Kaveh knows he shouldn’t be afraid — yet he is terrified, no matter how irrational it seems.
But Kaveh is a simple man, and now, at this very moment, he just wants to be close — to the one who he once scarred, to the one who scarred him back, aversion caused by aversion, trauma caused by trauma, to the only person that understands him wholly and entirely; Kaveh wants to be close to Alhaitham because he’s the only one he can trust — because being close just makes sense, because that’s how it’s always been, how they’ve always been.

“This operation requires a rather lengthy stay at the residence I've arranged — three months or more. Closely acquainting ourselves with the target is expected,” he pauses, blinking excessively for a moment, as if trying to compose himself. “So, my goal is to find someone who’s middle aged, unmarried, familiar with undercover work, and ready to disappear from the world for several months with no questions from their employer or their family.”
He goes into great detail about the target, about the town and the people living there; Greg tries his hardest to listen carefully, but his thoughts keep drifting in a dangerous direction as the gravity of the situation at hand finally dawns on him. Oh god, they’re going to be married.
Or; Mycroft and Greg go undercover as a married couple and realise that that's what they've wanted all along: a future together.

Sherlock blinks. He’s used to replacing love with hate, sure, but other things — not so much. He guesses he got too careless; but oh well, they’re already talking about it, and Mycroft clearly saw through his wordplay months ago, so that’s not exactly a revelation.
Honesty has never been Sherlock’s thing. Telling the truth through a lie though is a completely different story.
Or; Sherlock replaces the word love with the word hate every time he admits something he probably shouldn't to Mycroft. The elder sees right through him.

Greg loves adrenaline, he really does — the risk is exactly what he needs to stay breathing and not wilt and die; so maybe it’s not at all surprising that he’s got a full-on double life going on?
So when he sees a familiar figure leaning on the railing of the VIP balconies while he’s right there on stage, in the middle of a very enthusiastic performance, it doesn’t frighten him. Instead, his blood boils with excitement.
Or; Greg is still a DI of Scotland Yard but is also the lead singer in his secret band and tours occasionally. Mycroft is still the British Government and has taken an interest in DI Lestrade’s pastimes.
