There was so much to be said, to explain, but honestly he liked the moment of silence. He could tell she did, too. One small break before the battle continued.
“Do you think everyone else is okay?” She finally spoke up, eyes all soft with worry as she looked at him, looked right into him. It was one thing about El that was so intense, that made her like flames. She never looked away, stared right into his eyes whenever they talked.
Dustin swallowed the bite of jerky and nodded. “Yeah, yeah I bet they’re all kicking ass on the rightside up,” he tried to give her an encouraging smile, but her worried look hadn’t wavered, and he sighed. “We’ll get back to them in no time. You’re gonna see Mike again, El.” He tried to ignore the sting in his chest.
Only El frowned harder. Not what he’d been expecting.

Dustin blinked back. He held up his family’s yellow phone receiver in his hand, not entirely sure he heard what he did.
“...Will?”
“I’m serious Dustin. You’ve got to stop this.”
“What? Giving my girlfriend flowers? What’s this even about Will?”
“You just gotta believe me on this one. You can’t give her any more.”
“But El loves flowers!”
“Exactly!”
"..You're losing me Byers!”
There was a heavy sigh from the other end of the line, sounding frustrated that Dustin couldn’t just magically read his friends’ mind. It was the same kind of sigh his mom often made.
“Look, I’m not saying that it’s not nice of you to do that for her – it is, and I know how much she loves them.” Will started, only to grow more adamant “But, Dustin, she cries every time they end up dying!”
Hearing that, Dustin felt his heart take a dip in his chest.
“Wait, she what??”

Steve raised a crooked eyebrow at him. "Y'know, like a gentleman? Did you forget everything you've taught me?"

Soap sighs, "I don't know how to.. I dunno.." he trails off with a sigh, looking at the ground. He looks at Ghost's shoes, he doesn't know why he does that, but he looks at his shoes and takes in the sight of how worn they are. Ghost loves his gear, that much is very obvious, he uses it until it's thread-bare and almost disgusting. Soap likes that about him, the way he loves things until their last breath.
