Summary
“Addi! What the hell are you doing here?” He quickly abandoned the laundry and sprung up to meet her. He leapt over the river as fast as he could and wrapped her in a tight embrace, which she swiftly returned.
Addison laughed as he picked her up and spun her around.
“Someone’s a little excited!” she exclaimed.
After a moment, Wyatt set her down and took a small step away to get a better look at her. “That color looks great on you.”
“Thanks! Willa helped me pick it out last week.”
Wyatt’s eyes slowly began to narrow. “Wait...how long have you been home?”
Addison finally manages to track Wyatt down.

Summary
Zed and Addison were sitting on the edge of the cliff - legs swinging, wind rustling through their hair, sun kissing the line between the sky and the sea - when she turned to look at him pointedly. He felt her gaze on him after a few moments, then turned to meet it.
“Enjoying the view?” he asked with a playful, teasing lilt.
“Yeah, yeah, I am. I can’t ever seem to get enough.”
Zed laughed, gently tapping Addison on the arm with the back of his hand. “You’re too kind, madame,” he replied, his tone still overly jovial.
Addison looked down at her lap. She was smiling, but there was an unmistakably sad quality to her expression.
“Actually, I have a question.”
They made it out alive. And Addison wants to go back to Seabrook, but she doesn't want to go home.

Summary
“So that’s the London Bridge, huh?” Jeff asks as he looks out over the water.
“Actually, it’s the Tower Bridge,” Britta corrects him. “London Bridge is the next one over. But it just looks like a plain old bridge, so most people think this one is London Bridge.”
Jeff squints. “Why would they do that?”
“Do what?”
“Name the boring bridge the London Bridge?”
Britta sighs. “I don’t know, I wasn’t there. I only know the fun fact because it came up in Vatican trivia once.”
Jeff and Britta visit London.

"You still haven’t told me about rent or your pet policy or where the smoking areas are.”
She rolls her eyes. “One, you don’t owe me anything, I’m not your landlord. Two, I know you don’t have any pets. Three, I also know you don’t smoke.”
Jonah sets the box down on the floor next to a small sea of others that had gathered in Amy’s living room; now his living room, too.
“But what if I want to get a goldfish? Or take up smoking so that I can get smoke breaks at work?”
Jonah moves in with Amy.

Summary
With each day that passes, she falls further and further into the fantasy. The one where where she didn’t sign a legal document tying herself to Adam at age 19. One where she’s got agency over her life, where she can flirt with her totally-not-cute coworker without getting a pang in her chest whenever she catches herself going too far. Where they can laugh about the most outrageous customers over morning coffee and brush the backs of their hands together without it feeling like a low level offense.
And then the tornado hits.

“Do you have any idea why this never works out well for me?”
“Your terrible taste in men, maybe?”
Britta quickly swats Jeff on the arm without even turning to look at him, moving with such force that her barstool swivels with her. “You know that’s insulting yourself, right?”
Jeff helps Britta through a breakup.

Summary
“Isn’t it kind of funny that we never figured out what we want to do with our lives?”
Britta turns her head to the side and lowers her sunglasses so that Jeff can clearly see the judgment she’s casting upon him. “What on earth do you mean? I think I know exactly what I want to do with my life.”
Jeff and Britta talk about their past, present, and future.

Summary
About halfway through their freshman year, Britta Perry has to concede that she likes Jeff Winger, at least a little.
Everyone else knew it - Jeff included - before she was able to admit it to herself. It was one thing to be friends and act like it, even to say it. It was another matter entirely to admit to herself that she more than tolerated him. She wanted him around, she sought out his company, she liked him. It was becoming harder and harder to keep rolling her eyes at his self-important schtick, harder to make excuses for why they had to see each other, harder to keep doing what they were doing without admitting that she’d developed quite the soft spot for him.
Then paintball happens.
They joke about their supposed sexual tension, ask if the other could imagine what it would be like if they did, and then they do.

“Britta?”
“Mhm?”
“How much longer do you think it’ll take for you to get sick of me?”
Britta closed the gardening magazine she’d been halfheartedly leafing through and cast it onto the coffee table in front of her. “What makes you think I’m not sick of you already?”

He looks at her like she’s the center of the whole goddamn universe. Every story she tells brings out a gentle smile, every joke a sharp point of laughter. The lines of his face soften, his eyes twinkle, and she feels as though he’s reflecting back all the love that she’s given him over the years.
A reflection on Jeff and Britta’s relationship after the rest of the study group has left.

Summary
Maddy places the Coke can she’d been using to ice her foot aside and picks her shoe up off the counter. Before she can reach the floor, a timid voice Cassie barely recognizes as her own pipes up.
“I should’ve opened the fucking door.”
Cassie and Maddy exchange more than a handful of words in the aftermath of their fight.

Summary
It hits him when he realizes that every song is about her.
The ones about looking across a room and being so captivated by someone that you forget why you’re even there, the ones about yearning for something you know you could never have, the ones about the echoes that never quite fade out - the one that will haunt your days and dreams for all eternity.
Every song is about having love, or losing it, or missing it, he thinks one morning as some generic drivel about lovers and Christmas lights comes on the radio. So every fucking song is about her.
Britta leaves, Jeff has multiple unfortunate realizations.
