Summary
Yuji Itadori never meant to take Love Link seriously. The dating app was supposed to be a joke something Nobara bullied him into, a distraction from cursed energy and his infuriatingly hot rival, Sukuna. But when he matches with the anonymous and absurdly fit “King,” everything changes.
Their flirty banter turns into late-night confessions. Then come the photos: shirtless, towel-clad, too-perfect-to-be-real. Yuji should be cautious. Instead, he's hooked. King knows too much. Feels too familiar. And worst of all? The more Yuji falls, the more he starts confusing the man in the messages with the one who’s been tormenting him in real life.
Love Link was supposed to help him escape Sukuna.

This essay was informed by experiences in the One Piece fandom and discussions about One Piece fanfiction, and thus the fandom has been cited in reflection of that, in order to better contextualize what was chosen as a primary focus. An essay on whump made in conversation with a different fandom might focus on different points entirely. With that being said, there are minimal references to One Piece, and the tone of the essay is an attempt at relative, if forever unachievable, neutrality.
