Summary
The last thing Joryu remembers from his old life is the clang of a metal pipe hitting his skull. Whenever he asks, Hanawa tells him there’s not much to remember. Joryu was a bad person, a member of a criminal organization, he did terrible things and hurt people. It’s better this way. Everyone from his past life believes he’s dead and they’re safer now that he’s not around. Joryu believes him.
Majima had been compared to birds in the past. A peacock, a kiji, a cardinal. Like his outward appearance was crafted to garner as much attention as possible. He certainly could be seen as flashy; loud snakeskin print jacket, tight leather pants, a laugh that could be heard across town. Unconsciously though, Majima had created his signature look more in line with a poison dart frog. Even down to his severe haircut and steel tipped shoes, everything about his appearance was supposed to ward people off. Don’t get too close, he’ll hurt you, he’s crazy. No one in their right mind would dress like that or act like that, he must be poisonous.

Summary
Returning from Hawaii, Majima can remember almost everything except Kiryu. Saejima and Daigo try their best to help him remember. Mild spoilers for all games!
“Are ya sure the name Kazuma Kiryu doesn’t ring any bells?” Saejima asks as they get in a taxi bound for Kamurocho.
“For the last time, bro, no. That name doesn’t mean shit to me.” Majima is so sick of his kyodai asking about that fucking guy. If he was so important, Saejima could just tell him what he’s supposed to remember.

Summary
Ren had never been very good with authority. Now the authoritative pressures he felt compelled to disobey were the bossy older boy who had tried to kill him and the mysterious supernatural force pulling the two of them together. Having shot one supernatural force in the head very recently, Ren wasn’t particularly inclined to follow the whims of any others.

“So I’m to be bait,” Akechi says flatly. “You’re serving me up.”
Ren can feel the grin on his face, and he can’t stop it. “I gotta open the store tomorrow, I only serve coffee.”
“Absolutely idiotic. Why would I agree to that?"
Ren shrugs one shoulder and leans back against the movie theater wall, smiling. He’s feeling light on his feet right now. It’s been a bad day, but the end is nice. “Call it penance.”
“Penance for what,” Akechi says.
His smile stays where it is as he glances away for a moment, then meets Akechi’s eyes again. “Being yourself.”

Summer vacation back in Tokyo was supposed to be two things: an exciting break from the mundanity of home, and a chance to see people he's missed so much it hurts. If he survives, Ren has good news for himself on both.

Kiryu had never been much of a coffee guy. He had his vices, sure: they were alcohol, nicotine, and sometimes, punching through a gang of rowdy punks so hard they’d regret being born. But for all his thirty-nine years on earth, he had so far avoided a crippling dependency on a 7 a.m serving of ground beans and hot water.

To Kiryu’s shock, there’s a thriving online fandom dedicated to shipping him and Majima together.
At first Kiryu just means to explore it, to learn what would possess people to write fanfiction of two yakuza together, but instead, he finds himself joining it. The stories make him feel loved, something he sorely misses in reality, with no better example than the masterful works of his favorite author, Maddog69.
