Summary
The clapping filled the Great Hall, but Harry couldn't muster even an ounce of positive feelings about the change. He was disappointed. He had had so many questions for Professor Riddle, most of them something he knew he couldn't ask from anyone else. He knew his interest in Defence wasn't completely legal, and after a summer in the Grimmauld Place, where he had read a lot of books about the Dark Arts, he wanted to know more. He hadn't dared to take any books with him, fearing that someone would check their trunks before delivering them to the dorms. He had hoped Professor Riddle would have something for him.
And maybe, somewhere deep, he had hoped that Professor Riddle would see him properly now that he was seventeen…

Professor Riddle is Harry's favourite professor at Hogwarts. Harry goes above and beyond to be his very best student. It's a huge blow when Harry comes back for his seventh year and discovers that Professor Riddle has taken a sabbatical to do research in Albania. Even worse than that, his replacement is that pretty-boy hack Gilderoy Lockhart!
