‘I’m just saying, if someone was worried about being killed off by Kira, getting a name change might just work.' Matt said. 'There’s no rule that states what counts as someone’s real name, so for all we know I could be right.’
Mello’s eyes narrowed, annoyed by the fact that Matt technically had a point, even if it sounded ridiculous.
‘Why do I get the feeling you mentioned this because you have ulterior motives, and not just out of morbid curiosity?’
‘Well, there’s one relatively quick and easy way to change your name.’
Mello did not like where this was going.
‘I had hoped to do this in a more romantic manner some years into the future, but desperate times call for desperate measures.’ Matt said, leaning forward so he could press another kiss against Mello’s lips, a mischievous glint in his eyes as he did.
‘What are you—’
‘Let’s get married.’
Mello stared at Matt as if he’d lost his mind.
In fact, he probably had.
‘I’d hoped for a little more enthusiasm, Mells.’
‘Are you insane?’

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen Near get angry.” And Mello was right. He had enough anger for the both of them. “But I don’t think he’s too happy about this. So that at least gives me something to be happy about.”
“Y’know, most people get happy about, like, hobbies… friends. Normal stuff.” Matt reached to the coffee table for a box of cigarettes and a lighter, plopping down on the sofa next to Mello.
“And what’s that normal stuff in your life?”
Matt took a drag from his cigarette. “Not having to watch fifteen hours of mafia surveillance footage every day.”
“I guess I’ll just have to be happy enough for the both of us, then,” said Mello.

A fic that details Mello's rise in the LA mafia, from beheading the leader of a rival mob to obtaining a Death Note from the Japanese police. Matt's unfortunate enough to get dragged into a mob turf war and a mass murder case. Mello's even more unfortunate to reopen old feelings that he swore he left at Wammy's House.

Mello, a dedicated and talented figure skater, is not good with change. When the rink he's skated at nearly his whole life is remodeled as a competition venue to save it from going under, he can't possibly think how things could get any worse.

Matt is a disaster, and he knows it. Recently fired from his job and struggling to find a purpose, he meets Mello by chance and is immediately intrigued. However, Mello is as cold as the ice he skates on, which only serves to interest Matt further, despite the advice from his childhood friend and roommate, Near.
