The blonde nervously was shaking his leg. Geez, how long did these take? If he took too long he would surely worry his mate. Especially given how sick the omega had been recently. He looked at his phone still two minutes left. The wait was antagonizing and it felt like the seconds only ticked slower. The roar of the chainsaw downstairs was deafening. The entire house vibrated as the back door finally gave way with a crash of splintered wood. Heavy, thudding footsteps stomped into the house.
Neither agent flinched. Their guns remained locked on each other, two fingers a hair's breadth from pulling the trigger. The rain hammered against the window, and the threat below began to climb the stairs.
The world narrowed to the space of a single, rotting hallway.
Upstairs, two agents, guns locked. Downstairs, a roaring chainsaw and the thud of heavy, purposeful boots on the steps. The air was a suffocating, chemical soup of scent. Leon’s dominant Alpha presence—ozone, pine, and gunpowder—was an oppressive, physical weight in the small room. It was a scent of pure, controlled aggression. Dominique’s Omega scent, normally crushed under a mountain of suppressants, was flaring in pure, defiant terror. It didn’t have anything listed on it and it was a box this man was hoping it was proof of a successful hit put out on Arlo Kennedy and his children, oh how he hoped his husband found him.
