"Come on," the boy whispers pleadingly, holding up what looks like a half eaten apple in an attempt to coax Ace out of her pen, though it seems to no avail. She stands with as much indifference and care as a brick wall.
Bruce, who's been around for enough decades that he thinks he might be constituted as old by mythological terms, has never had someone outright try to rob his horse. His armour, sure, sometimes even his weapons and bags — though no one makes it very far on broken legs with either.
But his horse?
It's so bizarre, in fact, that Bruce can't stop the bubbling laughter rip out of his throat.

Jason is having a relatively smooth, uneventful evening. True, he’s actively fantasising about how he will tear Wójcik into itty-bitty pieces, but that’s about as peaceful as it gets in this hell-pit. He is in no way expecting Talia to come marching in. Then, when she proceeds to bury three knives into Wójcik and shoot him twice in the head, he knows shit’s about to get coconuts.
He is still sitting in lotus position, mouth ajar, when she makes a sharp, imperious gesture in his direction.
“Come. Time for learning has run out.”

He knows exactly what it’s like to lose someone he loves.
Like a father. Like a mother.
Like an adopted son.
It was always like this. Any time Bruce saw Jason, he always looked the same way he had when Bruce found him in that abandoned wing of Arkham. Broken, scared, and in pain. Bruce must’ve seen the vision at least a hundred times, and it never got any easier. This wasn’t how Jason deserved to be remembered. He was so much more than what Joker had done to him.
Bruce had let go of his hopes for a happy ending a long time ago. Even if the Insurgency managed to kill Superman, it wouldn't bring his son back. But when new information suggests Jason could be alive again, it's so hard not to hope.
OR
What Jason Todd’s resurrection might’ve looked like in the Snyderverse if Bruce was a Good Dad, Slade was good but not good good, and Roy Harper was involved like he deserved to be. (No Snyderverse knowledge needed to enjoy!!)
