Summary
Just as the connection between Dazai and Atsushi deepens, a mysterious organization, led by the scientist Dr. Moreau, appears with the capability to clone special abilities: attaining Atsushi's "Beast Beneath the Moonlight" is their ultimate target. After a failed mission, Atsushi is captured and imprisoned on the island of Dr. Moreau, where he is forced to confront the twisted origin of his own special ability.
As the narrator, Dazai confronts significant shame and loneliness by understanding his intricate feelings for Atsushi and his intimate fascination with death. Simultaneously, he must unravel the mystery of this case, leading the Armed Detective Agency far from Yokohama to a remote island in the Pacific where they discover that "Beast Beneath the Moonlight" powers the manufacturing of monsters and abilities alike. On the island, Dazai and the others are met with horrors much greater than they could have ever imagined.*This is heavily inspired by a "No Longer Human" by Osamu Dazai ."The Island of Dr. Moreau" by HG Wells is the secondary inspo.

A number etched onto Dazai's wrist like a tattoo he'd regret the day after getting it. A small black oval that reminds him that he doesn't belong amongst others.
It's not supposed to be like this - permanent, unchanging, pathetically low. This number supposedly reflects compatibility two people have. Should two people join hands, the same number appears on their wrists. The most prominent number is thirty, people seeing eye-to-eye. They say middle forties is enough for a healthy friendship, and seventy is what most consider a fair compatibility for a happy marriage. Anything above eighty is rare, kindred souls who can hardly part from each other. A hundred is the highest it can be. Soulmates, destined for each other by fate.
All Dazai has ever gotten is a zero.

Dazai yawned lazily and laid back in bed, his larger hands meeting Atsushi's, bringing them to his shirtless, yet still bandaged chest. Atsushi liked to feel his heartbeat, feeling it gently thump against the others chest. It felt calming
Dazai and Atsushi just sleep next to eachother and cuddle. Thats all!

His mouth opens before his mind has a chance to catch up, and a question spills out.
“Why didn’t you ever get a girlfriend?”
Atsushi stops talking mid-sentence. He raises an eyebrow at Dazai, visibly confused.
“…Or a boyfriend, of course,” Dazai adds, uncertainly. “I’m not one to judge.”
Four years into the future, Dazai has found comfort in the life he’s built for himself, with his bond with Atsushi at the heart of it. When the thought of Atsushi falling in love with someone crosses his mind, he’s haunted by the possibility of losing the person he holds most dear.
