“What I know is this. I’m cold. When I touch my chest,” Bruno says, and his hand is guiding Leone’s laying his palm against lace and sallow skin, “I don’t feel a heartbeat.”
“When I’m cut, I don’t bleed, and even the way you are touching me right now…” His voice is a ghost ship, moored to nothing. Leone holds him, there is nothing else but to cradle him here, to offer what he can.
“I know you’re there,” murmurs Bruno, “but I can barely feel you at all.”
Some days, Leone is barely alive enough for himself. Tonight, he swears it, he will be alive enough for two.
