Summary
America wasn’t so bad; it definitely beat staying in the epicenter of a war, though Klara didn’t exactly love it. If it were up to her they would’ve stayed in Austria, moved to the countryside the very second they eloped instead of getting on a boat and coming to a whole different continent - at least they had Isolde’s family money to afford a home and put Klara through school for a second time, to completion this time.
They had a nice little home by the middle of as much nowhere as they could get in the city, there was as much vegetation as they could get and few neighbors, perfect for two close female friends to be more than what they presented themselves as without fear of being discovered. She wasn’t sure if the war was responsible for the downer atmosphere of the streets or if it really was just this miserable all the time - their little plot of land, a little piece of heaven on earth, was so colorful and vivid in comparison. All she wished to do was return home and never leave again, to forever bask in Isolde's presence and the colorful flowers in their garden and the sound of the cicadas during the summer months.

“It makes me happy to know that you still remember me,” the Timekeeper calmly says, pulling a gun from her holster and pointing it at Arcana. “Lady Arcana, I have come to kill you.”
She recognizes the gun. A loving rendition of the Colt M1911, modified by the finest wandmaker Manus Vindictae once had among them. She needs no more explanation then.
“First love must have touched thy tongue with honey to beget thee to grasp on thine vengeance with such ardor, Lady Vertin,” she mocks.
The Timekeeper pays her words no mind and places a finger on the trigger. “Any last words?”
Arcana approaches the oak table near her. She places the glass gently on the surface in a languid motion. She says in jest, “I require a moment’s reprieve.”

Summary
It's not opera, not at all... jazz. Isn't that what Francois said? And if so, then he wasn't lying — Isolde is talented. The unfamiliar rhythm is charming. She feels like tapping her foot to the beat. The breath comes to her only at the behest of a wonderful voice. The fan almost cracks in her tight grip.
Klara doesn't immediately notice the tears. She only feels them with a salty taste on her parted lips — that's what rudely brings her to her senses.
Klara finally wakes up, and the old admiration is washed away by a wave of anxiety.
Isolde Von Dittarsdorf. The Star of Vienna. Her dear, lost Isolde, ihr singvogel — oh, what is she doing here?
Klara meets Isolde on a cruise ship and it goes better than she expected!

Klara imagines these fangs in her neck, Isolde biting down and drinking until she’s had her fill and then some, draining her completely.
How terrifying, to realize how easily Isolde could kill her.
That damned deja vu crawls its way up her spine, yet again.

She wishes she had her sketchbook or camera, wishes that she could pull out her phone and snap a photo - anything to capture Klara’s smile. Isolde stares, doing her best to commit the sight to memory.

Summary
Within the walls of the St. Pavlov Foundation, there circulates an infamous rumor that the sudden release of Isolde von Dittarsdorf was a massive coverup for a jailbreak carried out at the hands of Manus Vindictae turncoats. Why else would her personal file be counted among some of the Foundation’s most classified documents?
Kakania knows better than to believe in all the gossip, nothing more than the desperate attempts of bored office workers to fill their days with something more interesting than their endless piles of paperwork. She has far more important work to do for the Foundation than entertain such meaningless speculation.
Isolde returns to Manus, and Kakania commits to her role within the Foundation. They try to make it work.
