Summary
Maybe that’s what it is, actually. The Rose that Shane loves is not Rose Landry, the glossy figure Ilya thinks he’s familiar with but doesn’t know at all. Just as he is not Ilya Rozanov in the way most of the world sees him, not all the time. Maybe they have that in common.
A snapshot look at Rose and Ilya in orbit around Shane, and the evolving meaning of family.

Summary
Hollander sighs. “It doesn’t concern you,” he says, and his eyes are pointed at Ilya but his gaze is unfocused, distant. Ilya remembers that last, game-winning shot. He wants Hollander’s attention, wants it more in this moment than he’d wanted the goal.
Ilya spreads his hands. “Then why are we still here when we could already be having victory sex in another room?” He smiles, deliberate and mean. “Well, victory sex for me, not for you.”
Normally, this would do the trick. Hollander stares back at Ilya and then says,
“Hayden’s sister thinks I have symptoms of autism.”
(Set circa 2013 or 2014. Shane wrestles with the possibility he might be autistic. Ilya wrestles with how badly he wants Shane.)
