“Here, take these. You looked cold.”
Lance is holding out some black fabric, and it’s only when Keith tentatively reaches out that he realizes that they’re gloves. And the fingers have been cut off, which somewhat defeats the point, but the gesture isn’t lost on Keith. “Thank… you?” The gloves are warm in his hands and warmer still when he puts them on.
“No problem!” He smiles brightly, in the way that would make galaxies jealous, holding magnitudes beyond. “I know they probably aren’t the best, but it’s better than nothing!”
It’s hard to fathom what more to say, especially when Keith already doesn’t talk to Lance in class since they aren’t in the same desk pod, but it luckily doesn’t matter because Lance gives a little wave and runs off back towards the playground, towards the wood chip game, almost stumbling over himself.
As he watches the blue boy walk away, Keith notices that Lance isn’t wearing any gloves himself.

Cue a meet-cute with our favourite dork.He wasn’t angry at her, not really. He was furious at everything: at the space where his mother used to be, at the father who never showed, at the universe for handing him a baby he wasn’t ready for.
But Kira didn’t know any of that.
She just knew her big brother had raised his voice. Keith closed his eyes and inhaled shakily through his nose.
“Okay.” He forced the breath out slowly. “Okay, we’re not doing that again. I’m sorry. I’m sorry.”
Kira’s cries softened into hiccups. Keith tucked her against his chest, her cheek hot and wet against his skin. She was so small. Too small for his anger. Too small for any of this.
He started rocking, slowly at first, then in a steady rhythm.
The chair creaked. The room swam in dim moonlight.
