    “What if we’re soulmates, Lan Zhan?” his voice is still hoarse from sleep. “What if it’s you and me?”
    “It’s always you and me.” Lan Zhan says simply. “Things wouldn’t change.”
    Wei Ying tries not to scream at how good those words feel. But Lan Zhan means something else, he means friendship, and that’s not what Wei Ying is asking. Because of course it would be a big change. Being soulmates would change everything.
    He sighs, forcing himself not to curl into his best friend’s warm body, and tries again.
    “I’m serious. What if I’m your soulmate? Would you… What would you do?”
    His heart beats like a hummingbird’s wing inside his chest, the anticipation unbearable as Lan Zhan licks his lips and prepares for answering.
    “If you’re my soulmate,” Lan Zhan pauses, thinking of his words carefully. “I will love you until the end of my days.”

    Lan Zhan isn’t a curious man when it comes to other people's business, but if this person is gonna scream and ruin his quiet moment alone, he wants to see who it is.

    He's almost turning back inside, tired of waiting, when the man in red raises his eyes and finds him.

    For a second, he is frozen in place. The man catches him red handed, meeting his gaze head-on, and Lan Zhan feels his ears blushing despite his frustration. The man looks confused, and then intrigued. Lan Zhan thinks he will have no problem remembering him tomorrow. He has very… distinguishing features.

    When the man’s face turns into a full grin, Lan Zhan turns around and goes back inside.

    Lan Zhan meets an infuriating florist while he's working as the cook in a wedding. Wei Ying is loud, annoying and childish, and Lan Zhan can't wait for the time when this wedding is done so he never has to see him again. Surely, the world isn't so small that they would meet a second time.

    But as Hanguang Jun approaches, Wei Ying loses the battle against his eyes, and allows himself to look just a little bit.

    The man is gorgeous. There’s no other word for it. His face looks like it was perfectly sculpted by a talented artist, not to mention the definition of his body. The leggings he wears show the leg muscles of someone who has probably been doing some form of acrobatics ever since they were a kid, and his arms are huge under his t-shirt. Huge. He’s just as tall as Wei Ying is, but his fit body makes him look shorter, somehow. Wei Ying swallows again, wondering if he has ever seen anyone who looks more like the ideal of beauty in his life.

    And then the man starts talking.

    Fire Dancer Wei Ying joins the Circus, because he wants a more exciting job. He's forced to train with a handsome Trapeze Artist, who seems to hate him for no reason.

    But Wei Ying isn't just here for the job. He's here to change his life! And that starts by making the inaccessible Lan Zhan like him, even if he has to annoy him into it.

    Lan Wangji’s eyes snap open. Right there, very faint, he can smell a hint of sweet liquor. He inhales again, and there it is. The distant spiciness in the air, mixed with the smell of earth. The scent of a very particular sort of sweat.

    A scent he knows too well.

    “Where is he?” Wei Ying’s voice pierces through the air. "Where's Lan Zhan?"

    Lan Wangji gets cursed with eternal heat, a curse he can only break by being with the alpha who is his mate. The problem is, he isn't bonded to anyone.
    His family tries to hide him away until they find a cure, but Wei Wuxian gets impatient, and decides to take matters into his own hands.

    “You’re in the hospital,” she says. “You were in a traffic accident, and–"

    “No, I heard that. But–” Wei Ying glances at the extremely pretty man, who’s just staring at him, completely still. His empty hands hover in the air. “I don’t need anyone to take care of me. I just wanna go home."

    “You are going home,” Yanli reaches over and tucks his hair behind his ear, giving him a tiny smile. “Don’t worry. Just a few more scans, and then Lan Zhan can take you back."

    “Who’s Lan Zhan?” he asks.

    The pretty man by his side inhales so sharply Wei Ying feels the air get sucked out of the room.

    Wei Ying gets in a traffic accident and loses six years of his memories, including meeting and marrying the love of his life. This is the story of how he falls back in love with Lan Zhan: quickly, and inevitably.

    Or, my take on one of my favorite tropes.
