“Come on,” he whines, giving Wangji a mischievous smile, “I’ve told you all night how beautiful you are. I should drink my fill of you when I can. You don’t even need the corset to tighten your figure when you’re firm all over the place.”
“Wei Ying!” Wangji scolds, turning around and using his arms to cover his torso. He’s been dressed like a woman for the entire night but this is the first time he’s truly felt like a maiden. “Do not tease. You may go.”
“Are you sure?” He asks in response. “You don’t want me to help you with the dress too? Have you traded your breeches for garters? I simply must know, Lan Zhan.”
Incensed, Wangji gives Wei Ying one final glare before moving into stance and swinging an uppercut against his gut. Wei Ying chokes and drops to the floor, cradling his abdomen and wailing with half-hearted complaints.
“Lan Zhan!” he whines, “I may have deserved that but have you ever heard about ‘holding back’?”
“Wei Ying does not know the term when speaking, and I do not know it when retaliating.”

Wei Ying grins and pulls out a file from the messy desk before flipping it open and theatrically clearing his throat. “Lan Zhan, courtesy name: Lan Wangji. Brother: Lan Xichen, political figure. Uncle: Lan Qiren, Dean of Criminal Justice for Gusu University. You’re a distinguished forensic analyst with a medical background and renowned deduction skills, according to your superiors. You’re intelligent, practical, clinical, and just the no-nonsense person Mingjue-ge would send to spy on me.”
Wangji quirks an eyebrow. “Spying would suggest it’s a secret. I am very openly reporting back on you.”

Summary
Hours pass and the sun is high in the sky by the time Wangji’s ears pick up movement from Wei Ying. The huli jing fusses within his burrow, then yawns loudly. Wangji watches as a pair of ears pop out of the hole in the ground, followed by a body and a set of tails.
The lack of awareness Wei Ying displays irks Wangji to no end. He should have at least already noticed the large dragon hybrid sitting a few feet away from him. Instead, Wei Ying stretches and yips cheerfully before turning around and letting out a displeased shriek at the sight of him.
Wangji blinks, offended.

“I’m assuming you’re here for the conference,” Wei Ying said, turning mischievous eyes his way and stepping much closer. “You have a dragon so…are you a racer?”
Wangji’s mouth went dry as Wei Ying stepped close. So close that their arms frequently bumped into each other as they traversed the rough terrain. Wangji’s fingers couldn’t help but twitch in reaction.
He nodded to Wei Ying’s question. “It is my first time.”
“Yeah?” Wei Ying prompted. “I was a wreck my first race. I think I was maybe 12? I was definitely the youngest racer there. Are you nervous for tomorrow?”
Wangji hummed in thought. “Racing is not why I am nervous,” he murmured, still affected by their bumping palms.
