George hated formal events.
They were dumb, getting dressed up and showing off for no particular reason. He had to wear his stupid circlet, which felt much too sparkly and fancy to be sitting on his head, and he had to stand around a bunch of high ranking officials and pretend he cared about the pointless politics and updates on their different kingdoms.
And worst of all, he wouldn't get to have any time with Dream the entire day. His knight would be standing guard, standing by the walls of the ballroom instead of by George's side, where he was meant to be.

The two are cuddling in Dream’s bed, their legs tangled together and their fingers intertwined. George tucks his head in Dream’s chest while Dream’s arm wraps around George’s torso, keeping the boys pressed tight against one another. The covers are pushed aside, hanging off the mattress and slightly brushing the floor–their shared body heat is more than enough for a warm Florida autumn.
“Yeah?” George blinks sleepily as he shuffles around to look up at Dream’s face.
“Can I ask you something, baby?”
“Sure, go ahead.”
Dream does just that, breezily going ahead and making his request. Despite being made in his usual tone, accompanied by a casual grin, his request, to put it lightly, is most definitely an unusual one.
Upon hearing it, George is suddenly wide awake, slightly flustered, and very interested.

Ten days. It had been ten whole days since George had seen Dream. If he was being honest, he’d started missing him as soon as the taller man left, but of course he’d never admit that to him. It was just unspoken.
Instead of having Dream by his side, another knight had stepped in temporarily while Dream was gone. He was nice enough, polite, but nowhere near as good as Dream. There was no teasing with this other knight, no coy smiles exchanged, no barely concealed flirting, and worst of all, no stolen away kisses while nobody was looking.
