“If you’re worried about hurting me when you die,” Caelus said this innocently but the statement made Dan Heng visibly flinch from how blunt the sentence was, the taller of the two being completely oblivious. “You don’t have to worry about it. I’m pretty tough on the inside.”
“What is that supposed to mean?” Dan Heng grimaced as he tried to pull his hands away from Caelus’ but his grip was strong. The grey-haired boy only grinned widely as if their topic wasn’t dark and gloomy at all. “I won’t get hurt if you die. I won’t even cry at your funeral! I promise.”
Dan Heng didn’t like how Caelus was making such weak and empty promises. He didn’t like how Caelus was just casually throwing baseless and shallow commitments. He didn’t like how Caelus was blindly devoting his heart to him even though he knew in the end he would still end up hurting Caelus one way or another. “You’re awfully making a lot of promises you can’t even assure you can keep.”
“Don’t worry. I don’t break promises.”
Dan Heng chuckled as if to mock what Caelus said as he gently withdrew his own hands from Caelus’ own. “You don’t know that.”
