She wonders if she ever got superpowers, like Matt or Luke, what she would do. Maybe she could fly, or see through walls, or something even more ridiculous. She definitely wouldn’t sit by and do nothing. She would join the good fight even if it was dangerous and stupid. Because they needed more people like Matt and Luke. There would always be too many lives at stake and too few people who gave a shit enough to do anything.
So when her burner buzzed in her back pocket, she didn’t hesitate to answer.
Matt’s voice rang like church bells, loud and clear but sure in their meaning.

Summary
Getting settled on a new planet has all kinds of ups and downs, Ryland Grace knows this. Eridian's are very different, not to mention simply their method of speech.
Grace may have forgotten to mention that some forms of sound, sudden and sharp, are painful to humans. It never came up, and after nearly a year on Erid, it had sort of slipped his mind. Not to mention, being on a space craft for nearly five years must have brought an issue like this to light, but it seems that he and Rocky had just gotten lucky.
The alternative, the pain of new sounds is discovered the hard way, with a bit too much blood as a result.
