Summary
There were times he used to hate these moments the most. Coming home after a long shift to a silent, empty home. Sure, he could faceplant in his bed, starfish and sleep for the next 10 hours without anyone caring, but he would always miss the warmth of coming home to someone. Even if that someone was already sleeping by the time he would come home.
The first few times after they’d started dating, he would come home after a long shift, tired and ready to hit the hay, and find Evan curled up on his side of the bed, fast asleep. In those moments, he would carefully crawl under the covers, cuddling up to his soft, warm, sleepy boyfriend and he would think back to those lonely days, counting his lucky stars.
The first time he came home late from a shift after the break-up and had to climb into his cold and empty bed, he had despised himself a little more.

Buck had looked hopelessly lost. Alone. Drowning in grief and guilt. Radiating desperation for someone to hold him for a second. To hold him together and tell him he didn’t have to stay strong. That he was allowed to grieve. That it was not his fault.
And it broke Tommy’s heart because he didn’t feel like he could be that for Buck. Tommy had no idea where they stood now. And it was not high on the priority list to ask.

Summary
Tommy’s left butt cheek was starting to go numb and he lost feeling in his left arm a while ago, but he would rather cut it off than move. Buck had finally fallen asleep about one-third into the movie Tommy had put on, with his right side carefully tucked under Tommy’s arm, sling precariously positioned, head pillowed on Tommy’s chest, snoring softly and without a doubt drooling all over Tommy’s sweater.
But he would still take this a thousand times over the agony earlier on Buck's face, the silent tears, as he threw up for the third time that day.
Tommy had not expected another call from Eddie, telling him that Buck dislocated his shoulder again so soon. But with Buck’s track record, maybe he should have.

Summary
What slowly wakes him up in the first place is a stubborn beam of sunlight consistently shining on his face.
Tommy tries to bury his head further into his pillow, but it doesn’t help.
It doesn’t make sense, because the only window in his bedroom faces the north and never has sunlight streaming in, in the morning.
