Hitoshi hears someone step into the make-shift infirmary the moment the door closes behind Recovery Girl and Hitoshi doesn't even have to look to know who it is because he was expecting this.
It was his one big fear, attending the Sports Festival and trying to make as much of an impact as he could, ranking even higher than embarrassing himself and now it’s happening, just like he expected.
Still, he's glad for the cool wet cloth Recovery Girl put on his eyes because Hitoshi doesn't know if he's ready for this even though he knew it was coming and at least like this he still has a little bit of time left but when he feels someone step up to his bed he knows it's out of his hands.

Trust Yamada to figure out that this is not for nothing. He really is too perceptive for his own good, but Hitoshi is not going to tell. Not yet.
He has plans, after all.
"Can't I just make breakfast?" he asks and he can practically feel Yamada's gaze burning in his back.
"You can. You just generally don't, and especially not at this time. And this seems planned, with how you had everything ready rather than a spur of the moment thing, so what's going on, kiddo?"
Hitoshi turns around to him, briefly forgoing his preparations and he levels Yamada with a look.
"I have a plan and you're going to let me stick to it," he simply says, not explaining anything else, because that part comes later and to his credit, Yamada immediately nods.

"We have a crisis. We're in crisis mode," he finally gets out and Hitoshi nods.
He kind of already took that away from Katsuki's unusual behaviour so he takes Katsuki's hands in his and squeezes them once.
"Okay, what's happening?"
"It's bad, Toshi, it's really bad," Katsuki gets out and there's an uncharacteristic fear in his eyes, one Hitoshi has only very rarely seen.
"We'll deal with it like we always do, Kats, no worries, you just have to tell me what's going on."
Hitoshi tries to stay calm and composed but seeing Katsuki so obviously distraught is setting his every nerve ending on fire and it almost feels as if he has to fight something immediately, if only to get those jitters out.
"My parents know I moved," Katsuki breathes out, his voice shaking and he clings to Hitoshi's hands so hard that it's almost painful.
Hitoshi takes a moment to digest that because that is like the worst case scenario for Katsuki right now.

"What the fuck," the villain mutters, apparently still stuck on the splattered corpse and after a moment he turns murderous eyes to Katsuki.
"This is your fault," he hisses, reaching out to wrap his hand around Katsuki's throat and tilting his head up even as he squeezes. "You did this."
"Didn't do shit," Katsuki rasps out, his voice accompanied by the screaming and abrupt silence that means someone else just died and Katsuki wonders who it is that came to his rescue.
His squad is more flashy than that, and Deku would have slammed right in while still making sure that no one dies and even Shinsou—as absurd as it is to think he came for his rescue—makes sure to never kill anyone.

Hitoshi fiddles with his silent phone. Ever since Katsuki went on that oversea mission messages had been scarce an in between and the different time zones hadn't helped either, but still, Hitoshi usually had something to look forward to waking up.
Now even that stopped.
It probably just means that Katsuki's mission has taken off for real now and he doesn't get to check his phone anymore but something uneasy still sits in Hitoshi's chest.
Katsuki is the spotlight hero. There should be no reason for him to go silent on a mission because he doesn't do undercover or infiltration.
That's more Hitoshi's schtick and so when he goes silent that makes sense.
When Katsuki goes silent? That spells trouble, in Hitoshi's opinion.

The villain is still rampaging around and it's only a matter of time before he remembers Bakugo and Hitoshi and then Bakugo will have to let go of him, if he wants to save himself.

He just stepped into the bathroom to brush his hair real quick before they go out for dinner—because Hitoshi gets food here and he's being allowed to come to dinners with Aizawa and Yamada—and for some reason his gaze gets stuck on Yamada's shampoo bottle.
"Hitoshi? You about done?" Aizawa asks and sticks his head through the door. "Everything okay?" he then wants to know when Hitoshi doesn't say anything else, his gaze still caught on that stupid bottle. "What's going on?"
"Lover's hair," Hitoshi gets out, because it's so stupid, it's so incredibly stupid and the cartoonish picture on the bottle doesn't help in the slightest.

Katsuki doesn't need to be thanked—he just needs to see his friends thrive and be happy and then he can be happy too, even as he yells at them to get their shit together and stop slacking off during studying.
It's a working system and Katsuki is not about to change anything about it for his squad but things with Hitoshi are different.
He has been adopted into the squad somewhat semi-officially, mostly because Denki brought him in and then firmly kept him stuck there but it's been months now and by now Katsuki thinks of the purple-eyed idiot as one of their own.
And that's where the difficulty comes in.
Because Hitoshi isn't like the other idiots—he's not slacking off, he's not staying up because he's stupidly forgetting about the time, he's not eating garbage, he's normally not hurt by what people say about him.
No, Hitoshi's problems run deeper than that.

"Well, welcome to my world," Hitoshi mutters with an eyeroll because in the rare instances he can't get someone with his quirk, fighting without a quirk is literally all he does. "You're just overly reliant on yours."
"You think you couldn't get me to respond to you? Scared, eyebags?" Bakugo teases him and Hitoshi stares him down.
"I'm not scared and you wouldn't stand a change against me if I was allowed to use my quirk."
It's not even boasting—ever since that very violent quirk awakening he had taking control of people is easy in a way that sometimes still scares Hitoshi.
And he's not ready to have Bakugo be scared of him.

It takes him a moment to spot the origin of the movement and for a moment Shouta thinks he must be hallucinating, because that's a child.
A small, shivering child, who cannot be older than ten or maybe eleven. On the roof of one of the highest towers in the area, with no official way up there, apart from teleportation, flying or scaling the building like Shouta did.
And that is more than worrying.

He stays there, for way longer than is comfortable or socially acceptable and like he so often does, Hitoshi runs his mouth at him.
"Are you about to kiss me or snap my neck?" he asks, allowing a bit of cheek into his voice, even as he readies himself for a fight and normally it's enough to set Bakugo off but this time he only continues to stare at him, consideringly and all consuming.
"I could also explode your head like a watermelon," Bakugo finally says and Hitoshi is pretty sure that somewhere Denki makes a choked off noise of alarm though it gets lost under his own chocked off noise.
Though his has nothing to do with alarm.

He controlled Aizawa against his will, lied to him about his quirk, used him to alleviate some of his own pain, uncaring what it would do to Aizawa and it's all wrong, Hitoshi knows it and yet, he still did it.
Text-book villain behaviour.
He's exactly what everyone always said he was and Hitoshi knows he should stop and stay and face the music, but his feet carry him away, away, away and in the end, he simply lets them.
It doesn't matter where he ends up. There's nowhere for him to go anymore.

"Parent-Teacher conference," Katsuki flatly repeats and Aizawa's eyes snap to him.
"Yes, Bakugo. You're going to be there, too. In fact, all of you are required to attend as well. Don't think I like this any more than you do but it's what's going to happen. No questions, you have free study time now."
The fucker is barely done speaking before he vanishes inside his sleeping bag and between one blink and the next, he dropped down to the floor, clearly already out.
Katsuki sits at his table, very still, very controlled and doesn't care about free study at all because he's fucked.
He's entirely fucked if Aizawa meets his parents—or gods forbid just his mother—and even though Katsuki doesn't like a lot of grown ups, Aizawa is—different.
He's different and once he sees how weak and pathetic Katsuki is his entire picture of him will change and then Aizawa will treat him like every other adult does and Katsuki is not ready for that.
