Summary
Eddie thinks he’ll really like that. It’ll feel good, to lean back in the seat and feel the sun on his face unshielded by the headrests blocking the view in front of him. It’ll just be him, and the road, and—
And there will be someone with him. He’s sure that there will be someone right there next to him. Someone who doesn’t fuss. Someone who isn’t worried. Someone who likes the same music as he does and doesn’t care where the car goes at all. Eddie doesn’t know who it will be yet, because he’s still little. But it’ll be someone who likes him a lot.eight-year-old eddie diaz fantasizes about the freedom of the open road; the fantasy follows him all the way to 2025. or: an eddie character study

Summary
The Frontier is a good truck. He knows that. Reliable, practical, decent on gas for its size — Buck had done research before he bought it, had shown Eddie a spreadsheet, an actual spreadsheet, color-coded, and Eddie had looked at it and then looked at Buck and thought something very specific that he hadn’t been ready to name yet either. That was before. This is after. The point is; the truck is good.
But it’s not Buck.

Summary
“Everything about being with Eddie feels right, and good, so so good, Maddie. It’s not timing or logistics, or even—I know he’d say yes if I did ask to move in.”
“But you feel like you can’t?”
Buck shakes his head.
“Because I’m cursed.”

Summary
On a quiet weekend, Eddie surprises Buck with a drive up the coast to see elephant seals. The road is long, the air is salty, and the space between them feels different when there’s nowhere else to be.
